Expectations

These vision correction procedures usually free people of their glasses or contact lenses. They are liberating: a dramatic life change is possible. 20/20 vision is very possible but expectations of perfection are perhaps unrealistic. These procedures do not cure the cause of poor reading ability in people over 40. Unless one eye is made nearsighted purposely, the person over 40 will need reading glasses. Touch-up surgery is possible to refine the visual result if necessary. As with any procedure there are risks, but the complication rate is very low. The Lasik, Intacs and CK procedures are quite controlled and use the most advanced technology.

Glasses may be necessary for fine tuning vision for certain conditions (night driving, computer work, heavy reading). People over forty usually require reading glasses unless one eye is purposefully made near sighted (this blurs that eye for distance to achieve a " one eye far, one eye near situation," or "monovision".

Most people prefer both eyes as sharp as possible for distance and the use of reading glasses when necessary.

CK may be used to reduce your need and dependency on reading glasses.
