LACRIMAL
Disorders of the lacrimal (tear) system

Dry Eye
Dry eye or keratitis sicca is one of the most troublesome eye problems. People complain of itching, pain, blurred vission, red eyes, and paradoxically excess tearing. Treatment is copious lubrication with artificial tears, lubricating gel, or ointment.

- Artificial tears or gel or ointment must be used to keep the eye moist.

The Tear Duct (the drainage system) may be plugged to promote greater comfort with less dependence on eye drops. The plugs are placed in the office, rapidly and painlessly. Plugging the drainage system keeps what tears you make around the eye longer for greater comfort.

Tear Duct Blockage
- This is the opposite problem. The tear duct is blocked and the person experiences severe tearing, irritation, and infections. This problem is corrected with surgical tear duct reconstruction.

Infant with blocked tear duct resulting in tearing and infection. This condition occurs in adults too.
