EYELID MALPOSITIONS

Ptosis - A drooping eyelid (more than just extra skin) results from a weak elevating muscle. Ptosis surgery strengthens the weak muscle to raise the eyelid and permit normal movement of upper lid.

Right upper lid ptosis - congenital

Adult onset left upper lid ptosis

Ectropion
- the lower eyelid is pulled down so it cannot protect the eye. The eye is chronically red, irritated, teary, and painful - the vision can be damaged.

Surgery is necessary to tighten the lid back into normal position.

Entropion - the eyelid turns inward so that lashes scratch and damage the eye.

Surgery is necessary to rotate the eyelid back to normal position so the eye is not permanently damaged.
